Here’s a guide to cleaning your VR headset:
Before you begin #
- Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Cleaning Materials:
- Lint-free microfiber cloth (the kind used for cleaning glasses)
- Disinfecting wipes
Cleaning Process #
- Power off and unplug the headset.
- Wipe the lenses with a dry microfiber cloth in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards. Avoid using excessive pressure or rubbing the lenses with anything other than a microfiber cloth, as this can scratch the lens.
- For hard surfaces:
- You can use disinfecting wipes to clean the hard exterior surfaces of the headset, the controllers, and any other VR accessories.
- Do not use alcohol wipes or any other harsh chemicals on the lenses as this can damage the coating.
- VR Headset Cleaning Cabinets: Consider using a VR headset cleaning cabinet for a more automated and potentially germ-killing cleaning process. These cabinets use ultraviolet C light (UVC) to disinfect the surfaces of the VR headset. This technology kills up to 99.99% of germs and bacteria according to some manufacturers. It’s a fast and convenient disinfection process (usually under a minute).
Additional Tips #
- Consider purchasing a VR cover, which is a washable or disposable fabric interface that goes between your face and the headset’s face cushion. This can help to absorb sweat and make cleaning easier.
