Controller Components #
The controllers have the following components:
- Trigger Button (squeezed with index finger)
- Used for grabbing, shooting, selecting
- Grip Button (squeezed with whole hand)
- For grabbing objects and tools
- X/A and Y/B Buttons
- Remapped depending on the app
- Menu/Meta Button
- Access main menu, universal/quick menu button
- Thumbstick
- Movement, cursor control, making selections
- Tracking Ring
- Tracks precise motion and positioning
The controllers are tracked by tiny cameras on the headset which follow the positioning of the tracking rings.
The controllers run on removable batteries (AA) which slot into the grip handles.
Basic Controller Usage #
Pointing and Selecting
- Point controller at an object or UI element
- Pull trigger to select/interact with it
- In applicable cases, you can also use the thumbstick as a cursor
Movement
- Thumbstick (push to move in that direction)
- This movement is called smooth locomotion and applies to some Futurus sims
- Point and press thumbstick then release thumbstick
- This is used for teleportation
- Open teleportation doesn’t require highlighted teleport nodes and allows the user to teleport freely within an open space
- When interacting with teleport nodes, the thumbstick will produce a laser when pressed down and aimed at the teleport node. The laser should “snap” to the teleport node and possibly turn green. Upon releasing the thumbstick, the user will spawn at the center of the teleport node.
- This is used for teleportation
Grabbing Objects
- Reach towards object with controller in hand
- Squeeze grip button to grab
- Move controllers to move/rotate object
- Release grip to let go
Quick Menu
- Press Meta (Menu) button on right controller to open the quick menu
Haptic Feedback
In Futurus simulations, the controllers use haptic feedback (controller vibrations) for:
- Impacts when hitting objects
- Indicators for actions/events

You can adjust settings for:
- Dominant controller hand
- Height offset to align with your real hands
