Controller Tutorial (PICO)

PICO 3 Controller Components #

Trigger Button (index finger)

  • Primary input for grabbing, selecting, and interacting

Grip Button (side of handle, squeezed with hand)

  • Used to grab and hold objects or tools

A and B Buttons (Right) / X and Y Buttons (Left)

  • Used for interactions, remapped depending on app/game

PICO Button (with logo, below thumbstick)

  • Single click – Opens Quick/Universal Menu
  • Double click – Return to PICO Home environment

Menu Button (≡ symbol, above thumbstick)

  • Opens app-specific or system menus (function varies by app)

Thumbstick

  • Smooth locomotion control
  • Tilt forward/back/side to move
  • Push in (click) for additional input (e.g., teleport, sprint, confirm depending on app)

System Tracking Ring

  • Houses infrared LEDs for optical inside-out tracking
  • Enables precise 6DoF motion tracking by the headset cameras

Battery Compartment

Each controller runs on a single AA battery, inserted under the grip cover

Basic Controller Usage #

Pointing and Selecting #

  • Point the controller at an object or UI element
  • Pull the trigger fully to select or interact
  • Some apps also allow cursor control with the thumbstick

Movement #

Smooth Locomotion

  • Push thumbstick in direction of movement
  • Tilt partially for slow walking, fully for faster movement

Teleportation (if supported)

  • Point controller toward destination
  • Press thumbstick in or pull trigger while aiming to teleport

Grabbing Objects #

  • Move controller toward an object
  • Hold Grip button to grab or pick it up
  • Move and rotate naturally with your wrist
  • Release Grip button to drop or let go

Menus and Buttons #

  • Press PICO button once to open Quick Menu
  • Press PICO button twice to return Home
  • Press Menu button (≡) for in-game or app menus

Haptic Feedback #

The controllers provide vibration feedback to simulate:

  • Collisions and impacts
  • Alerts, notifications, or interaction cues

PICO 3 Advanced Controller Settings #

You can customize your controllers through the PICO Neo 3 Settings menu:

  1. Press the PICO button to open the Main Menu.
  2. Select the Controller icon at the bottom menu bar.
  3. Choose the left or right controller to configure.

Options available: #

  • Dominant Hand – Set left or right handed
  • Controller Visualization – Show VR controller models or just tracked hands
  • Button Remapping – Change functions of buttons/triggers
  • Thumbstick/Trigger Sensitivity – Adjust thresholds and dead zones
  • Vibration Strength – Set intensity of haptic feedback
  • Unpair/Pair Controller – Reconnect or reset controllers

After adjustments, select Apply/Confirm to save changes. Repeat the process for the other controller if needed.

PICO 4 Controller Components #

Each PICO 4 controller includes the following inputs:
