Meet Linda Zhang, XR Developer

Meet Linda Zhang, XR Developer

Gaining another talented team member is one of our favorite things to announce and celebrate. Not only that, but we enjoy getting to know more about them by asking a few fun questions. We want to welcome and introduce you to the newest addition to the Futurus/Amebous Labs developer team. Meet Linda Zhang.

What sparked your interest in immersive technology? And what makes you excited about the industry?

Growing up, I was always a kid with a strong imagination. Sometimes I feel more attached to my imaginary world than the real world. Therefore, I love movies like Avatar (James Cameron) and novels that describe fully immersive Sci-fi technologies that people can step into and instantly teleport into another dimension. When I experienced virtual reality (VR) for the first-time during sophomore year, I knew this is the thing that was closest to my dream, so I worked hard to gain the knowledge and skills to enter this industry ever since.

The extended reality (XR) industry is still relatively new, and there are many exciting opportunities in interaction design, which can potentially influence how we interact with each other and the virtual world.

What is something you look forward to doing while being on the Futurus/Amebous Labs team?

I look forward to developing fun games that showcase the power of VR and finally get my name on a VR game!! I want to learn more about designing and developing for VR and using that knowledge to hopefully create the fully immersive VR system that I always wanted.

Are you gifted with any hidden talents?

I’m a decent archer in VR 🙂

What games are you currently playing?

Don’t Starve and Oxygen Not Included by the game studio Klei Entertainment. Both are super unique and fun, and I’ve been obsessed for the past month. I learned a lot from how they simulate the world, including plants, animals, and other resources.

Do you have any pets?

This is Along. He’s almost 12 years old, but he still looks like a puppy. He stays at my parent’s house, so it’s technically their pet, not mine anymore. But, I would love to adopt a cat at some point.

Where is the first place you’d like to travel when it’s safe?

I’ll definitely go back to my hometown and visit my parents and grandparents, as I haven’t seen them since the pandemic. In terms of leisure, I’d like to visit Mexico!
