21 Nov Meet Jason Drakeford, Creative Director
Jason is a man of many talents. Today we’re learning more about his experience and what inspires him!
What was your first video game console, and what was your favorite game?
I had a Panasonic 3DO and built a PC for gaming when I was 11. My favorite game? Sam & Max Hit the Road, and pretty much any adventure game from LucasArts.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Flying! I think being in the VR industry has made that superpower come true.
What do you enjoy most about working in the VR/AR industry?
I love sharing my process with others, talking at conferences, teaching immersive film as a “professor of practice” at GSU. As far as the work goes, the best part is the fun, talented team I get to work with. I’m always learning something new from them, collaborating to turn creative ideas into something really eye-popping and unique. MR/AR/VR is such a new medium, anything is possible!
What’s one cool thing you’ve learned while being at Futurus?
I’ve learned a lot of different ways to integrate Unity 3D into my workflow from the team at Futurus, evolving my traditional narrative storytelling into branching, interactive timelines. It’s a great way to engage our audience and create a story where you feel like you’ve made an impact.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Most recently, going to Sundance Film Festival, Sheffield Doc Fest – really any film festival inspires me. When at home, I watch Mubi films, it’s like a film festival in my living room, and I’ve stumbled upon inspiring and rare films that have influenced my own work.
To stay inspired at work on projects, I visit motionographer.com, stashmedia.tv, booooooom.com, and itsnicethat.com.
Tell us about your puppy!
Arrow is a funny little puppy – my wife and I have always been cat people, and originally set out to get two kittens with my two girls, but somehow ended up with a puppy! It’s been an interesting year with him, and I’ve grown from a cat person to a cat + dog person now!
