28 Feb 5 Ways Augmented Reality Will Become a Part of Our Everyday Lives
We will know everything, instantly. We already feel like we have the world at our fingertips with our constant use of smartphones, but at this time, we cannot comprehend true instant access to information in a way that will become standard in the future. Instead of typing, we will speak when we want to know something (similar to Siri, but more precise). Or even better, the device will scan the room and understand the information we are looking for before we do. Information will be visually generated right into your field of view, without fumbling around with a device in your pocket.
Artificial intelligence will be even more prevalent. The rise of artificial intelligence is inevitable and individuals that utilize any technology today are already affected by it. Instead of the more common call and response AI interactions, we will see it used more and more in a predictive state. We are past the days of asking Alexa what the weather is outside. We are now moving into the age where future AIs choose our outfits for us based on weather, meeting schedule, meeting type and day of the week. The AI will learn my behaviors as well as the environments I frequently visit based on data the AI system receives from my augmented reality wearable. Perhaps someday I can ask my smart closet to integrate the color pink into my Wednesday outfits.
More products will be interconnected. Today we see connected devices in our home by brands like Nest, Lutron, Honeywell, Google, and Amazon. The future of IoT and connectivity will only be helped by augmented reality. With a new, interactive platform, we will be able to control devices with more natural motions in an interface that integrates seamlessly into reality. We will also be able to visualize data across our devices and view usage, controls, and scheduling through a heads-up display interface directly from our augmented reality wearables.
It will become a part of us. I get anxiety when I leave my home without my phone. It’s like a second brain to me that holds my schedule, connection with the outside world, information and entertainment. Augmented reality is already being compared in magnitude to the release of the smartphone and 99% of humanity is unaware that it’s going to happen. Just like our dependency on today’s smartphones, we will someday become dependent on AR glasses or contacts. They will become a part of our existence and we won’t be able to function at the new standard of living without them.
It will do good. Augmented reality technology already brings educational experiences to those who cannot access them in reality. It also can provide diagrams of the human heart to a surgeon who is about to perform a difficult surgery. These are feel-good examples right now, so how can it get better? These simulations will only become more and more real. With intelligent scanning, the future of surgery could include the overlay of that heart, tracked in real time to the patient. The wearable augmented reality display will alert users of danger before they even know it exists (similar to Tesla’s autopilot ultrasonic sensors). It will move us towards a more equal world with smart resources that will even the playing field. And we will never forget the name of someone we just met ever again.
